Communicating Our Attitude

By Alicia Smith The goal of successful marketing is to create long lasting relationships with your prospects by marketing your business with passion. When youre not excited about what youre doing, no one else will be either. Our passion for what we do in business is communicated through our attitude. Our attitude comes shining through in a variety of ways. How can you create an attitude that paves the way to success for you and your business? 1. You are what you speak. The words we use say everything about who we are and what we are about. Our spoken words are probably one of the most obvious ways we communicate our attitude to others. Think about what you say before you speak. Will it serve to build connection, community or relationship with others? If not, consider saying something else or even saying nothing. Theres a lot of wisdom in the words if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all. 2. Dress for success. How you dress and the colors you wear communicate a lot about who you are. Find clothing that accents your best features. Make sure your clothes are properly tailored, neat, and wrinkle-free. If necessary, work with a personal shopper who can help you select apparel that is stylish and fits for the image that you wish to communicate. Consider how different colors look on you and how they make you feel. Wear clothes that you enjoy so youll come across in a more powerful way with potential customers or clients. While clothes dont make the man or woman, they certainly speak volumes about what we think about ourselves and what we wish to project. 3. Be punctual. Thomas C. Haliburton said, Punctuality is the soul of business. Arriving on time for customer meetings, speaking engagements, meetings with vendors, or anything else you do in your business, shows that you respect others. Respect is the foundation for creating great long-term relationships with your clients. Showing up and on time is one of the best ways to show someone that you care about them. By keeping your commitments to others, you are acknowledging them and their needs. Caring about your customers must be your number one priority since it is through your relationships that you build your business. No one knows how much you care until you show them by showing up. 4. Respond to emails several times each day. Nowadays, email is the most frequently used method of communication. Make it a goal to answer emails within eighthours. If you cannot answer emails during that timeframe, at least send back a reply that you have received the persons email and that you will respond by a certain date and time. Never leave people wondering about whether youve received their email or not. If you dont answer promptly, you are perceived as not being on top of things, that you arent detail oriented or, worse, that you dont care about your customers. Dont hesitate when it comes to communications. Set aside a couple times per day when you will concentrate solely on reading and replying to your email. 5. Return calls within hours. Time is of the essence when it comes to doing business. The difference between getting a new client can hinge on returning a phone call in a timely manner. You never know when you might be missing a time critical opportunity. A prompt response communicates an attitude that you value serving others and that you respect their time and their deadlines. In todays competitive environment, if people dont get the prompt attention they desire, its easy for them to seek out your competitor. Avoid missing opportunities to grow your business; plan two to three times each day to return calls. 6. Take responsibility. We communicate our attitude through the responsibilities we take upon ourselves. People can sense when we take full responsibility for our actions and the resulting outcomes. We communicate an aura of strength, confidence and leadership, which makes us even more attractive to the people with whom we do business. Think about how you can step up and take even more responsibility for your business and the results you achieve. 7. Take action. Successful business owners are people in action. They dont wait for life to happen, they make life happen. Taking action communicates an attitude of excitement and accomplishment, which others find extremely attractive. Action tells others that you are a leader, that you move things forward, that you can make things happen, and most important, that you are confident doing what needs to be done. Just as people watch things that move, they watch people that move. 8. Body language. Along with the words that we speak, our bodies are probably the next most obvious way that we communicate our attitude to others. Its as if we are walking billboards. Everything from your facial gestures to the way you sit and position your arms and legs, communicates volumes about who you are and your attitude towards others. Observe people who exhibit positive, open, and welcoming body language and try to emulate them. Read about body language and create a new way of being that represents what you most want to convey. One book I recommend is I Know What Youre Thinking by Dr. Lillian Glass. 9. Change your thinking; change your attitude. We all know that thoughts influence how we feel. They also influence the words we speak as well as our body language. Our thoughts become the filters through which we perceive the world. By changing our thoughts, well automatically change our attitude. We wear our thoughts everywhere we go. Make sure youre showing your best self at all times. 10. Smile. A smile is the universal sign of welcome and friendship. Nothing warms the heart of another, melts the tension of a situation, or endears people to us, than delivering a smile with sincerity. Practice smiling at everyone and everything. Incorporate it as a healthy habit. Not only does a smile affect others, it has an automatic effect on how you perceive everything around you. People are attracted to people who make them feel good. Start attracting people to you and your business by wearing a smile. Cheesecake

By Elizabeth Morgan When Marcus Porcius Cato made the first cheesecake back the heyday of the Greek Empire, he probably did not realize that his simple dairy recipe would be one of the worlds favorite desserts, even after several centuries. Indeed, the cheesecake has not lost its appeal and continues to evolve to meet the changing tastes of its aficionados. For such a delicious cake, the cheesecake is actually rather simple. It is made of sugar, eggs, and cheese (usually cream cheese but ricotta is also often used in Italy), and other ingredients such as cookies, or cookie crusts, and cream. The more modern cheesecakes are topped with all kinds of tropical fruits like kiwi, mango, and strawberries, and are decorated with vanilla and chocolate. Different people from different parts of the world have added their own twists to the traditional cheesecake, and each version is just as delicious as the next. The cottage cheese-based, world-famous New York cheesecake, for example, is loved the world over for its heavy use of cream and excellent consistency. Equally famous are the Italian-style cheesecakes that use delectable ricotta cheese and vanilla extract for extra flavor. Almost all other food-loving countries have their own versions of cheesecakes as well. The Germans use quark cheese, Greece uses homegrown Mizithra cheese and Mascarpone cream, and Brazilians add in guava marmalade. Can you guess which country likes maple syrup on their cheesecake? You guessed it right Canada. The cheesecake has also found a place in Asia, where it has evolved into flan cakes, famous in Tokyo and in Manila. These flans are usually made of starch and eggs. The vegetarians have also whipped up their own cheesecake they use tofu instead of cream cheese, and surprisingly, their version tastes just as good. Cheesecake provides detailed information on Cheesecake, Cheesecake Recipes, Pumpkin Cheesecake, Cherry Cheesecake and more. Cheesecake is affiliated with French Cheese. Tips For A Flawless Tan For Your Prom

By Differin Staff Sitting in the sun-or a tanning bed-is a major no-no. Make bronze from a bottle as natural as bronze from the beach with these top tips! Take some time Dont apply self-tanner when youre in a hurry. A rush job can cause streaks and spots. And definitely dont apply the day of the prom; two or three days before is better. Always exfoliate Use a body scrub, loofah or plain-old washcloth to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and help self-tanner spread on more smoothly and last longer. Pay extra attention to rough areas like hands, wrists, elbows, knees, wrists, ankles and feet. Defuzz first Shaving gets skin even smoother than exfoliating; do it before applying self-tanner not after, which can remove some of your color. Moisturize smart Moisturizer prevents self-tanner from soaking into skin; use it only on areas you dont want to get unnaturally tan like heels, ankles, tops of toes, knee caps and elbows. Go with gloves Orange palms are a dead giveaway that our tan isnt natural. Snug, disposable drugstore gloves can help keep palms clear. Even it out Rub hands together after putting tanner in your palms to spread the solution evenly in each hand. Smooth on circular Once self-tanner starts soaking into skin, use circular motions to spread it around; different directions help blend better than linear lines. Work your way up Doing your upper body first can cause streaks or spots when bending over to apply to your lower body. Start with your feet and legs and work your way up. Follow the suns lead When self-tanning your face, apply where sun would hit naturallynose, cheeks, middle of the chin and foreheadthen blend by moving toward your hairline. Practice patience Wait eight hours after tanning before putting on lotion, showering, sweating or wearing tight-fitting clothes. Wait three hours before applying makeup. Extra Credit: Use lots and lots of lotion! After the eight-hour mark, moisturize skin like mad! Self tanner is dehydrating so lots of lotion will make color last a lot longer! Plan for Your Wedding Day

By Steve Miers It’s probably the most important then a woman’s life, it’s their wedding day. For thousands of years women have dreamed about their weddings ever since they were young girls. They have hope chests where they store special belongings that they hope to use on their wedding day and beyond, day by wedding magazines by the thousands, and they almost religiously follow celebrity weddings as if they were their very own. When that special day comes in a woman’s life there is nothing more important to her than to look beautiful, and feel beautiful. They spend unlimited funds on their wedding dresses, wedding favors, DJs and getting everything for their special day to be just perfect. They don’t want any errors, they want perfection and they plan their entire life for a beautiful day. There’s no doubt that during your wedding something inevitably will go wrong, and you should prepare for this in advance. I know of one particular wedding party where the photographer forgot what film and his camera and all of the pictures were ruined. Of course that isn’t as much of an issue now with digital cameras, but still you never know when something might go wrong with something as simple as photography. You should plan ahead for things such as these perhaps even giving your guest disposable cameras to take pictures on their own. Just make sure that they dropped the cameras off in a special container whenever they leave your wedding. Another problem that often happens at weddings is that the bride has a little bit too much to drink beforehand. This can really spell disaster for the entire ceremony if the wedding is really standing at the altar to smashed to even speak. They could also happen that the groom has a little bit too much to drink, or perhaps he’s just feeling queasy from the excitement of the day and he passes out. Don’t be surprised if something serious like this happens during your wedding, but just prepare ahead of time and don’t take yourself too seriously. The wedding day was made to be beautiful, and the most special day in a woman’s life. Try and relax, take a few deep breaths before stepping out in front of the crowd, and relax. You will have a much more memorable time if you don’t expect perfection and then you are overly upset whenever you don’t achieve perfection. Just enjoy your day, make it special in your own unique way, enjoy the time with friends and family that you may not get to enjoy the time with as much as you should. This will set the stage for a wonderful life with your future husband. Becoming A Blushing Bride

By Eric Hartwell Walking down the aisle is perhaps one of the most earnest dreams of every woman. From little girls who imagine marrying Prince Charming to the lovely ladies who wish to exchange vows with the love of their lives – there are just so many who long to be a blushing bride. To many, the bride is the center of the wedding, the belle of the nuptial and the star of the romantic event. In fact, surveys show that the second most anticipated moment of the wedding is the moment the bride shows up in her beautiful gown. The only moment that beats it is the couples kiss after they are declared man and wife. Just the same, every bride owns the spotlight on her wedding day and her wedding night. Her groom, guests and bridesmaids indulge her to wallow in everyones attention and affection. As a bride, the woman wants to make sure that the wedding she has is the one of her dreams. Many brides prefer traditional white gowns and simple gold bands in lovely churches. Others on the other hand want to get married beside the sea or in plush gardens. There are also others who want to tie the knot on top of towering skyscrapers or even underwater. No matter what a bride picks, one thing is certain. She will exhaust all possible options just to get what she wants. This is just the nature of every beautiful blushing bride. Since being a bride is a phenomenal event in a womans life, many females also face the pressure which comes with it. From petty problems like losing weight before the wedding and major dilemmas like getting cold feet – the negative possibilities are simply endless. Sometimes, brides even tend to worry about the more unimportant things. Obsessing over bridal gowns, reception themes and others are some major bridezilla syndromes which suck out the joy in all weddings. If this happens to you, or a bride that happens to be dear to you, just remind yourself, or them, that the wedding is not about the gown or the guests. Its about two people celebrating their undying love for each other – no more and no less. However, every bride must face and overcome these troubles in order to become a happy woman. The important thing here is to make sure that a brides impending marriage is done for reasons of true love at the right moment and time. Otherwise, it is always better to postpone being a blushing bride for a more suitable time or sometimes, a more suitable man. It may sound harsh at first, but a harsh realization is sometimes better than being a blinded bride forever. These are the things every girl needs to know when it comes to making their bridal dreams come true. Remember, it takes a lifetime of love and life before finally getting started on that one minute wedding march of a lifetime. Job Search Methods – Is the Internet Right For You?

By Carla Vaughan Why do so many people post their resumes on the Internet when the rate of success is actually LOWER than finding a job with classified advertising in a local newspaper? Actually, according to the ever-popular book, What Color is Your Parachute? the success rate for sending out your resume randomly to employers (and getting a job offer) is actually higher than securing the position of your choice through an electronic resource. The rate is somewhat higher for IT-related positions. So, why do so many people spend their time, effort and money on a tool that offers so little reward? Well, it is a novelty. People can zip a resume into the job abyss and dream of someone finding it. Also, it is unbelievably easy. Click, click, click and you have posted your resume to a job board. A few more clicks and a couple of dollars and you can have your resume blasted to employers who might match your job-search criteria. Unfortunately, this process does not always work well. Sometimes it doesnt even work at all. For the 4 – 5% of folks who DO find their jobs online, life is good. The best approach to finding a job is to keep all of your options open. Do not rely on one source. Read the classified ads, scour the internet, network your socks off and go to job fairs. Oh, read the newspapers business section, check out the yellow pages and/or read local magazines and find out which companies in your local area offer jobs like the one you want and ask them if they are hiring for the position you are seeking. Ask them. Dont send them a resume. Ask them. Call them. Visit them in person. It works. How well does it work? Hmmmmmm. It works better than all of the others combined. The problem with contacting individual organizations is that many people have a fear of being rejected. As if that isnt bad enough, the time it takes to prepare for a phone call of this kind is rather lengthy. But, when done well, the success rate is very high. What method will work for you? Sometimes the answer to that question is directly related to the desperation with which you view your ability to secure a position for which you are qualified. You may start off with classified ads in the beginning, then move to the internet and maybe a few weeks later join a networking club.or you may do all of them at the same time. The more effort you put into your job search, the more successful you will be in getting a position you value. They are directly proportional to one another. The internet is a great place to obtain a vast amount of information. You can research nearly any organization, product, service and sometimes even people. Learn all that you can about finding the right job, but dont limit your job search to a few internet job boards. Broaden your horizons and strike out in a variety of methods to ensure your success. You are worth it. Find out more about the job search process by reading these awesome Job Search Articles. How to Make Your Own Homemade Catfish Bait

By Darren Takenaga Have you ever been fishing and witnessed someone catching all the fish? I have many times. When I see someone hauling in stringers full of fish I get very curious. On occasion, I have asked about their secret techniques pertaining to equipment and bait. A lot of times I will get the polite smile and response such as just lucky today or you knowsame ol stuff. Ill ask what type of bait and that is usually when I will get the silent treatment. The typical response, sorry, secret family recipe or if I tell you, Ill have to kill you. Through the years, I have collected some very useful information concerning fishing baits. The most important realization was that the people who were catching the most fish were not using store bought baits. It seems that they made their own baits. Some anglers in the past divulged some secrets pertaining to their baits. I thank them for it. I have developed my own formulas but this is not the time or place to reveal them. However, I have compiled the main ingredients found in the most potent catfish bait formulas. I want to encourage you to develop your own formulas based on these ingredients found below. You will notice that these ingredients are easy to find. You can find the majority of the supplies at a well stocked grocer. When developing your own formulas, do not use all the ingredients listed. Just take three or four items and see what happens. You are not bound to the items listed below. Feel free to test others. I have found the most important aspect of making your own bait is testing. You will need to test your homemade bait several times because maybe a certain day, the fish arent biting, or there are no fish, or some other variable that has nothing to do with the potency of the bait. Bring several batches of your baits on your fishing outing and test several to increase your chances of success. Another tip is to write everything down. You dont want to develop bait and find that it is successful only to realize that you forgot how to make it. Also, you can make batches of bait for literally pennies a pound. You may store the batches in zipper plastic bags in the freezer. Since these ingredients are for developing catfish bait, I will warn you ahead of time to do your experimenting in the garage or outdoors because some of the ingredients have a pungent smell and some create a mess. 1) Uncooked oatmeal popular as a base (keeps all the ingredients together in a doughy mixture) 2) Baking flour another popular base 3) Corn and wheat flakes or similar types of cereals base to keep bait on hook 4) Water required in most cases to help make the mixture workable 5) Garlic salt found in most store bought baits (probably a good idea if you used it also) 6) Garlic powder similar to salt but may alter the fish attractant properties 7) Can of tuna found in many homemade bait recipes. Maybe the old timers know something. 8) Anise oil extract almost a requirement for all types of fishing bait 9) meats from the meat counter (raw livers, brains, fish parts) the more blood, the better 10) canned or packaged meats such as cat food, dog food, spam, sandwich meats, hot dogs an alternative to the raw meats 11) cheeses smellier the better think limburger or rotten cheddar 12) miscellaneous fish food pellets, cattle feed pellets, molasses, gelatin mixes, can of corn, strawberry soda, bbq sauce 13) Zipper storage bags great for mixing your ingredients, storage, and taking to fishing hole. Remember, if it smells, is bloody, or rotted, it might be a great addition to your catfish bait formula. I hope this will information will get you started in developing your own secret catfish bait. The most important tip of all is to remember to have fun. Share the experience with your family and friends. Have contests on who catches the most fish with his or her bait. I guarantee you will remember the fishing stories for the rest of your life. Darren Takenaga is an outdoor enthusiast, and avid angler. How to Communicate Effectively in Troubled Times

By Nancy E. Schwartz In troubled times – be it war, a shaky economy, or political uncertainty – it’s harder than ever to engage your audiences. There’s just so much on everyone’s mind. So how do you keep communication going, as it must, during this time? Communications experts tell us that nonprofits (and other organizations) should expand their communication efforts during war and economic downturn, with an increased focus on fact-driven messages. A recent article in PR Week reports results of a survey of journalists nationwide who almost unanimously urge organizations to “communicate factually, frequently, and consistently.” “Use this time wisely,” say the journalists, “to position yourself.” Offhand, I agree with survey findings. It is important to continue to reach your audiences during this time, especially to reassure them that your organization is still here and still working hard to address the issues on which you focus. Remember, people don’t stop volunteering, advocating, or giving during tough times. They simply are likely to deliberate more carefully, and more slowly, on where to direct their resources. I suggest the following: • As always, make sure that your organization has a compelling mission and a unique approach to delivering products, programs, and/or services. Once that’s in place, design or refine a potent brand. (Branding is the art of creating a consistent, recognizable, and clear unified voice or personality that conveys your organization’s uniqueness, focus, and values.) Once you’re confident that your brand is on target, stick to it, rather than focusing on short-term needs or concerns. • Review your messages to ensure that they are relevant in the current environment. Evolve the messages to make sure that they match the world your audiences are living in today. • Take advantage of the hyper-focused landscape to speak with a larger voice and define yourself in a somewhat less cluttered marketplace. • Put more online communications strategies to work – e-newsletters, web sites with strong content, and more. Online communications usually provide more value for price and, in addition, are more measurable than many other communications strategies. Nancy E. Schwartz helps nonprofits succeed through effective marketing and communications.
